Aer Lingus boss says passengers up in January
02.02.08
Aer Lingus chief executive Dermot Mannion has said that sales on the airline's new routes from Belfast International Airport improved in January. The comments come after some of its flights were just over a quarter full in December. He added that he was confident the new service from Belfast to Heathrow, launched early last month, would also prove a success.
Last week we reported that the airline’s new flights from Belfast International in December to Amsterdam had a load factor (a measure of the average number of seats sold per flight) of just 27%. Its flight to Barcelona had a load factor of 44% and on the Geneva route it was 39%. No figures are available yet for January, including on its service to Heathrow.
Mr. Mannion said: 'We’ve had a good January in Belfast and the figures are improving all the time. The Aer Lingus brand has now been brought to the attention of the entire public in Northern Ireland and we’ve been very well received. These are very early days.'
