Car park bomb alert closes Belfast International
03.03.08
A security alert closed the terminal at Belfast International Airport for an hour today. Police said two packages found at the long-stay car park at lunchtime were treated as suspicious.
The airport terminal was closed for an hour while a controlled explosion was carried out by Army technical officers. The terminal was evacuated, with some delays to flights in and out of the airport. The alert, which also closed the car park, also led to traffic chaos, with a mile-long queue of vehicles stretching back along the main airport road.
A Police spokesperson said they are examining closed-circuit television footage in a bid to discover how the packages came to be at the car park.
