Jet2 add two routes; axe Barcelona flights
03.10.08
Jet2 will operate flights from Belfast International Airport to Croatia and Cornwall from May next year. However, as airline unveiled its new routes to Dubrovnik and Newquay, it axed its flights to Barcelona with effect from October 26.
Jet2 said the new routes, which are expected to create 50 jobs at the airport, proved it was bucking the downturn in the airline business. Chief executive Philip Meeson said: ‘These are exciting times for us. Unlike other airlines who are grounding planes, we are expanding our range of destinations and planning to increase our capacity from Northern Ireland.'
The airline will refund passengers booked on its Barcelona flights after October 26. The route is served from Belfast International by both Aer Lingus and easyJet, and was ‘over-serviced,’ Mr Meeson said.
