Airport worker can challenge security pass withdrawal
03.12.11
An member of staff at Belfast International Airport has won High Court permission to challenge the withdrawal of her security pass. It was taken away after she was alledged to have breached a restricted zone to buy a carton of milk, the Belfast Telegraph reports.
Patricia O'Hara and two female colleagues are reported to have compromised a critical area at the airport. The three women are said to have ‘conspired’ to break an airlock system at a restricted area, rather than passing through security. Two held doors open at either side for their colleague to pass through.
Security passes that the three are required to have to work at the airport were withdrawn after the incident in January. Ms O'Hara, of Co Antrim and with 11 years' service with handling firm Menzies Aviation, has not worked at the airport since. She is seeking to judicially review its refusal to reissue her pass. Mr Justice Treacy granted leave to apply for a judicial review.
