Ash grounds flights again today

Airspace over Northern Ireland and parts of Northern Scotland have been closed until at least 13:00 today due to fresh volcanic ash drifting from Iceland, the CAA has said. Flights are grounded at Belfast International, Belfast City and Derry airports. Highlands & Islands Airports said flights to and from the islands of Tiree, Islay, Barra and Benbecula and Campbeltown in Argyll are also suspended.
Ash levels from a volcano were predicted to exceed acceptable levels for jet engines. The Irish Aviation Authority also grounded flights to and from the Republic from 07:00 today until at least 13:00. Flights in the rest of the UK are operating as normal. Air passengers expecting to travel to or from any affected airport should contact t their airlines for more information.
