Drop off charge introduced
08.07.10
The £1 charge for dropping off or picking up passengers at Belfast International Airport came in to effect yesterday, with some reports of confusion. The charge allows motorists to use the new drop-off zone for 10 minutes before they have to park, and some said inadequate signposting had caused them to use the drop-off zone - and pay the fee - when they had intended to use the free period in the long stay car park.
The airport said the charge has been introduced to recoup the cost of upgrading the terminal frontage following guidelines issued by the Government after the Glasgow Airport terror attack. There is still a free 10-minute period for motorists, but it is in the long-stay car park, which is not as close to the terminal as the drop off zone.
