Passengers up 8.3% at Belfast City
09.10.09
Belfast City Airport bucked the trend at most UK airports by recording a rise in passenger numbers in August. 240,834 passengers passed through the terminal, up 8.3% compared with the same month a year ago, according to the latest figures published by the Civil Aviation Authority.
Whilst Belfast International saw a 15.3% drop in passenger numbers and Derry saw a 15.5% drop, Belfast City recorded the largest percentage increase at any UK airports with one million passengers or more a year. The CAA figures also showed that for the year to August Belfast City had 2.5 million passengers, unchanged on the same period a year earlier. Over the same period Belfast International’s numbers were down 11.1% to 4.7 million.
The statistics showed that Belfast City Airport’s passenger numbers had been achieved despite a slight drop in flights from August 2008 and a 9.1% decline in flights for the year, meaning that its flights are operating with more passengers.
