Forth Dutch cocaine haul in three months at Belfast International
10.01.08
A Dutch man appeared in court in Northern Ireland this week accused of trying to smuggle cocaine into the country. It is the fourth such haul arriving on a flight from Holland at Belfast International Airport in the last 3 months.
Customs officers found just over a pound of cocaine after an Amsterdam flight landed at the Belfast airport on Saturday. Johnson Fayiah, a 26-year-old passenger on the flight, was arrested and has been charged with attempting to smuggle Class A drugs. He was remanded in custody at Antrim Court this week.
The three previous cocaine seizures all also involved passengers on flights from Amsterdam. In October and in early December two Dutch nationals each attempted to smuggle £30,000 worth of the drug into the country, and in mid-December a Londonderry man was arrested after travelling back from Amsterdam with more than £2,000 worth of the drug.
