easyJet is replacing the five Boeing 737s it has based at Belfast International Airport with five new Airbus 319s. Those flying with the budget airline to Amsterdam and Luton today will take off in the first of the new Airbus 319s. The other four new planes will arrive over the winter, with a sixth 319 operating from the Belfast base from the end of March next year.
The 319 has 156 seats, compared with the 149 seats on the Boeing 737. easyJet say that it is one of the most environmentally efficient aircraft available. Paul Simmons, the airline's UK general manager, said: 'We are delighted to have brought our new Airbus experience to Belfast. We know that the aircraft will be appreciated by both business and leisure passengers and that our position as Northern Ireland's favourite airline will be consolidated.’
