Aer Lingus announce Paris route; cut back Amsterdam flights
13.02.08
Aer Lingus is to launch a new route from Belfast International Airport to Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris on March 30. The new service will operate daily, however, in order to launch the new route, the airline is dropping one of the twice-daily flights to Amsterdam.
The new route announcement comes just days ahead of the launch of four services by the airline from Belfast - to Rome, Budapest, Malaga and Faro. In addition, from April, it will fly twice a week to Nice. The new Paris route brings to 10 the total destinations served by Aer Lingus from Belfast.
Aer Lingus will continue to operate a single daily service to Amsterdam, which had suffered a poor load factor - a measure of how many seats per flight are sold - since it was launched in December. Figures from the CAA show the flights were just 27% full in December (January figures are not yet available).
Aer Lingus chief executive Dermot Mannion said the decision to add the flight to Paris was in response to passenger demand. He said 'Our market research has shown strong demand for flights to Paris Charles de Gaulle, while Northern Ireland is increasingly popular with French visitors. We are delighted to be able to capitalise on this demand by launching our low-cost, superior service offering on this route.'
Aer Lingus will compete with easyJet from the same airport on the Paris route.
