Aer Lingus happy with 42% share of Heathrow route
18.09.08
Aer Lingus has said that it is pleased to have achieved a 42% share on the Belfast to Heathrow route. Seven months after it began flying between Belfast International and the London hub, the airline says it is well on its way to taking half the market share from bmi.
Enda Corneille, Aer Lingus corporate affairs director, said the figures are 'excellent' and it is 'on schedule to achieving 700,000 bookings before its first anniversary on the route'. However, its market share would be considerably less than 42% of the London – Belfast route, with Ryanair operating flights from Belfast City to Stansted, easyJet from Belfast international to Luton, Gatwick and Stansted, and Flybe from Belfast City to Gatwick.
