Three men caught trying to smuggle over £24,000 of cannabis in to the UK via Belfast International Airport in 2009 have been jailed. David Dumigan, John Semple and David Redfern were stopped by UK Border Agency staff as they arrived in the city, carrying a total of 2.9kg of the drug.
The three, all from Northern Ireland, had flown in on separate flights from Holland with both herbal and resin cannabis in the lining of a suitcase or in their bags. David Dumigan, 30, from Laral Gardens, Newtownabbey, was sentenced to 7 months, John Semple of Kilgad Road, Ballymena 9 months and David Redfern, 27, from Glengormley 7 months, suspended for 3 years, and received a £500 fine.
All pleaded guilty to being knowingly concerned in the fraudulent evasion of the prohibition of controlled drugs.
