Emergency for Flybe plane
26.03.10
An emergency was called yesterday at Belfast City Airport following reports that smoke was coming from a Flybe jet's engine. The incident had an impact on other travellers, with a number of flights delayed and some others, such as the easyJet 08:15 from Luton, diverted to Belfast International Airport.
Ambulance and fire services went to the runway to evaluate the situation following an alert at about 07:35. The 61 passengers and four crew were in a position to safely walk off the aircraft, which was towed away, permitting the airport to return to normal.
The Flybe flight BE125 bound for Glasgow was doing its final checks before take off when the pilot reported ‘technical issues’. Eyewitnesses suggest that smoke was coming from one of the engines of the plane.
A spokesman from the airport said: ‘emergency procedures were put in place as a precaution and that operations have been getting back to normal. A number of flights were diverted as the precautionary emergency response was under way.'
