International unhappy as City breaks passenger cap
27.11.09
A row between the two Belfast airports has intensified, after it emerged that Belfast City Airport has already breached a two million passenger cap, which was only agreed last year, the Belfast Telegraph reports.
Belfast City’s own figures show that it has already gone through the two million limit set down in last year’s Planning Agreement with the Department of the Environment. It has recorded 2,335,501 passengers in the year to date.
A spokesman for Belfast International Airport said that Belfast City’s planning application to extend its runway pledged to adhere to the terms of the 2008 Planning Agreement, yet last month the its chief executive Brian Ambrose wrote to Environment Minister Edwin Poots asking for the seats for sale cap to be removed.
