easyJet scrap Gdansk flights
28.02.08
Flights between Northern Ireland and Gdansk are to be scrapped in May. easyJet has said it will axe its two flights a week service from Belfast International Airport to the Polish city on May 20. The aircraft will be redeployed to the Prague and Malaga routes, allowing an additional frequency on each of these services.
easyJet launched the service just last August, and has blamed low demand for its decision. The airline will continue to operate from Belfast to Krakow, while Eastern European low cost carrier Wizz Air flies from Belfast to Warsaw and Katowice. A spokesman for Belfast International said it hopes Wizz Air might take over the Gdansk route.
A spokesman for easyJet said: ‘We are notifying passengers who have booked to Gdansk on flights after May 20 and giving them refunds.’ He said the axing of the service would enable Prague to increase from four to five flights a week, and Malaga to increase from seven to eight flights a week.
