belfast botanic gardens
Belfast Botanic Gardens opened in 1827. The Gardens boast a Palm House of a similar style to the more famous one at Kew, but the Belfast Palm House is the older of the two.
The Palm House is home to some very interesting tropical plants, including sugar cane, coffee, cinnamon, banana, aloe, ivory nut, rubber, bamboo, guava, and the beautiful bird of paradise flower.
The Botanic gardens also has a wonderful Victorian Tropical Glen, also known as 'the fernery'. Also in the grounds you will find beautiful gardens of roses and herbaceous borders, much of which were established as early as 1927.
