belfast castle and cave hill
Belfast Castle is one of the cities outstanding and historically significant buildings. The castle is on a prominent site 400 feet above sea level on the slopes of Cave Hill.
Belfast Castle is fairly modern, a Victorian building completed in 1870 (and renovated in 1990). Some have described it as 'self-indulgent', the large castle is built of sandstone and set in lovely gardens. The castle also offers great views over Belfast Lough and the city.
Cave Hill is a stone-age flint quarry, famous for being the site where the leaders of the United Irishmen swore defiance against the English in 1795. Cave Hill also offers magnifcent views over Belfast.

The Visitors Centre is open Monday - Saturday 09:00 to 20:00 and Sundays 09:00 to 17:30.
