belfast ulster museum
Located in the south-west corner of the Botanic Gardens, in the heart of the University Quarter, is the Ulster Museum takes you on a tour of 9000 years of Irish history, from the age of the dinosaur through to the first prehistoric peoples and later settlers.
One of the best-known exhibits is the collection of gold and silver jewelry recovered from the 1588 wreckage of the Armada treasure ship Girona. Other permanent collections focus on water wheels and steam engines, linen making, the post office, coins and medals, early Ireland, flora and fauna, and the living sea. Be sure to pick up a free guidebook at the reception desk.
The adjacent palm house, which is free, is older than its better-known counterpart at London's Kew Gardens, is a pleasing and attractively built building in which to pass half an hour.
